The first Saturday in December is Christmas light switch on in our lovely little market town. Every year I get asked to be a walk around entertainer to give out leaflets for the days different events.
Getting ready started early for me, I am used to waking up and being ready for the day in five minutes, unless I have a shower then it is fifteen minutes.
first I had to get all my hair back as much as possible, now with dreads that come down to my waist I had already realised that this was going to take some effort so on Friday I spent over three hours pinning them one by one to the top of my head, with many attempts pinning them in different ways so I could get my wig on. It wasn’t working meaning I could either cut all my dread off !! Not going to happen. Or I could tie it all back and hope for the best, which is of cause the option I went for. Then came to styling the wig! Oh my!! Let us remember that I have had dreads for what is getting close to seven years now and even when I didn’t have them I never actually did anything to my hair style wise. But after two hours of rolling my fringe or that belonging to the wig bringing it to five hours in total of doing my hair I had mastered the roll.
Going back to yesterday after painting my nails I followed the step by step advice I had always gone through when applying makeup.
1. Cleanse and moisturise
3.Foundation followed by a dusting of powder. Bye bye to my sun kissed skin, hello to looking ill.
4. The eye brows , eye liner and mascara.
On a side note by this time I was bored, really bored I had already spent half an hour going my hair and the base for my makeup I really cannot understand why people do this to themselves every single day. My skin felt so clogged up and heavy.
5. The lipstick .. I hate red but it was in keeping for the day and I am not going to argue with history.
Now for the shoes, I could only really go with the middle pair really, and I do love them sooo very much. I would love to be this tall all the time as they it makes my body more in proportion.
Dress then Wig and ready to spend 4 hours walking around town with my barefooted chaperone Chris.
This year there wasn’t as much entertainment and things going on as usual. Budget cuts of cause even though I think paying a decent amount of attention to attractions increase foot fall which boosts the local economy. But this isn’t going to be a ranty post about shopping local .. I can save that for another day. For the first time I have ever known it wasn’t raining and town was bustling with people. I had lots of fun shocking people I know with how different I looked and giving people the leaflets. I do love being happy to people and making them smile, look at me funny not to mention the other reactions I get .. all of which I feed off when I am working. I love walking past a group of ‘kids’ and hear the “Oh My Fucking God” and then to see their faces when I turn round and smile at them. I also found and bought our Yule tree for this year, it is little potted one about 4ft high and rather cute. For a grand total of £17 I had a tree, two sprigs of mistletoe and a bunch of Holly not to mention having it all delivered to my house that same evening.
As it got darker people started gathering outside the town hall ready for the singing and count down to the big moment .. The town crier started getting the crowds pumped up with the Oh yeay’s and then came the time where our town proves they can count backwards from 10. The lights went on without a hitch soon followed by fireworks and singing. It was fantastic and once again the people of Nuneaton proved that they can still ‘muck together’ and bring out the community spirit they hold deep in their hearts .. Whether they will admit to it or not.
The first thing I did when I got home .. shoes off, dress and wig off then scrubbed the crap off my face. With comfy clothes and slippers on I sat back and enjoyed some mulled wine and relaxed. Roll on Next year, but for now .. Comfy clothes, no makeup and no heals are the way I like it.
