We hear it all the time “its all about balance” but how do we get balance in our lives when at times it seems as though life is flying by? this happens to me a lot and i have spen years searching for the things that would work for me, I thought i would use this post to share with you something i wrote last year to help some friends out .. enjoy
This is the time of year when lots of people are reflecting on their lives and of cause is that time of year when change is ever so present, especially with today’s new moon. where ever we go we seem to get bombarded with “loose weight with this DVD or game” “use us to save your money for next Christmas” “want to improve your career do on of our home learning course” the list could go on for some time. So what i have decided to do is create my own ‘how to-self help’ guide that i will be posting here. I am a big believer in “what works for one may not work for another” so i am not going to be preachy and tell you what do to, this is merely a range of suggestions from my point of view taken from years of learning from different psychotherapy and spiritual practices. I am also going to be taking my own advice (one of my New Year resolutions) and am going to be following this myself. The results of which, i am going to be writing about in my blog.
Some of you may be aware that i am a huge fan of journaling, i have several note books for different things, i naturally analyse things and am at constant beck and call to my very active brain … i have been told many times that i think too much and am a day dreamer
The first step in finding balance in your life is to look at the here and now. For the next few days taking time to fully reflect on things is going to be really important. If you have no idea where to start then look at how long you spend doing the things you do every day.
Sleep, spending time with the family, work, house work, cooking, watching TV, relaxing, hobbies and anything else you can think of. Start by writing down what you remember doing yesterday then take a note of your daily routine for today and the next couple of days. Some people including myself never knew how long they spent just wasting time on the internet and then get frustrated that there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to do the rest of the things they wanted to do. Review your previous day in the morning and write your thoughts down. Are you doing enough of what you want to do? … do you know what you want to do? Is this how you want every day of your life to be? What are your goals in life? Start thinking and jotting down your thoughts dreams aspirations. What did you want to be when you were younger? If you could do anything in your life what would it be?
Sometimes it can feel as though life is throwing so much at us we loose track of what is important to us. I have already gone over how to start finding balance but your life is a journey and like with any important journey you plan to take it is important to know where you are heading, how to get there and what to take. This is where goal setting becomes vital. It gives you a vision of what the future can hold, gives you the motivation and focus to change what needs to be changed, gain new skills, knowledge and boost your confidence. All giving you the ability in achieving your dream life making it a reality,
According to experts, this is the week when good intentions and resolutions start to wobble and is apparently ‘black Monday’, well ok that is what they said on the news the other day. So has this happened to you? Could be that you have put too much pressure on yourself or is the underlying problem your mind set? Usually these things come hand in hand so here are some hints and tips on getting the most out of your life with setting goals.
If you have already started evaluating your life you, like many, may well feel over whelmed on where to start making changes. Below is a list of areas of your life you may want to look at.
Artistic Attitude Career Community-(do you want to give back/contribute?)
Education Family Financial Home Love & Romance Physical Pleasure Spirituality
Are you achieving what you want in these areas?
Start by brainstorming each area of all the things that spring to mind ..remember if you are going to dream, dream big, after all there is no point in limiting yourself.
When you have an idea of all the things you wish to achieve you can start putting them onto a rough time line. What do you want your life to be like in 5-10-15 years? What do you need to achieve this? It may take some so don’t put any pressure on yourself.
You can turn these goals into a vision board or scrap book which i shall go more into in my next blog post
