As a witchy mum I try to do my best to get the kids involved with different types of magick, last night was one of those nights. My eldest was as always the grumpy reluctant, not only does he have a cold right now but isn’t himself and as we all know I am having a few issues with my youngest son. However we all needed something to mark a fresh start, to show unity and commitment to positive changes. The new moon and Imbolc offered us that exact opportunity.
The plan was for me to spend the evening focusing on myself but after much thought I decided to do that in the morning instead, doing magick in PJ’s was a completely new experience, not only that but I also over did the sulphur, next time I use it I will have to remember to use a spoon rather than trying to sprinkle it out of the jar and too much sulphur means the house and garden ended up smelling of egg.
After speaking to the kids about what I wanted them to do, they went upstairs to write down their intentions, what they wanted to achieve and what they needed strength to overcome while I made the herb blend required. They spent more time thinking about it and getting down on paper than they usually put into home work so I was sure that they had thought about it. I also got them to choose a crystal from their own collection to charge up so that they can carry it around with them and draw upon it s strength when needed.
We gathered around the fire linked hands and started the ritual/spell. It is my role to lead the ritual of cause being the mother and most experienced I want to make sure they are protected for one. We called upon our ancestors to protect us, my granddad to walk a long side my boys in their journey, (he is still very much around watching over us so thought it would be good to give him something to do rather than just pestering my grandma every day) and we called upon the gods and goddesses to help us with what we were about to do. After I said my part while placing the herb blend onto the fire it was their turn to place a piece of cedar onto the fire, this is to help with not only protection but also healing and to help them with their dreams. They then concentrated on their intent as they folded up their piece of paper before placing them in the fire, passing their crystal through the smoke to charge it we finished by asking for strength and for us to become more joined together so we can support each other and be bonded with making a new start. They both helped me close the ritual by our usual “with harm to none so mote it be”
My eldest still not feeling well went off to finish what he was doing yet my youngest let everything out of his system and cried quite a lot, this was to be expected but he let me know all his fears, doubts and everything else that was going through his mind. We hugged for a while in front of the fire and talked lots, coming up with ways of working together to combat everything together no matter how much hard work it is going to be,. It is going to be worth it as we all need each other’s support and we all deserve the lives we want.
So here is to a new start, to strength and to family bonds.
