I’ve seen them in hobby craft and they seem to be the new craze taking over scrap booking, they are popping up on Pinteret, Instagram as well as all over the Internet.
Essentially they are a new expensive journal scrapbook that has a handy array of accessories, stickers, stamps, ribbon and other crafty things you can buy to use.
Now I’m a huge fan of journaling and scrap booking. My first scrap book I made was when I was a very little girl collecting clippings from news papers and magazines. I became hooked and was always being told off by my grandad for “cuttin’n’hackin about making a mess”
Today inspired by a fellow instagrammer who had just treated herself to a smash book and other bits I tried to find some of the note book style scrapbooks I’ve started and created in the past. This failed, obviously I’ve put them up safe. So I’ve started a new one. In an A4 notepad I’d had laying around for years.
This one is going to be for my favourite poems and quotes. The first key step into doing this type of thing, just like blogs is to decide on your subject. I employ the same technique by the way to my grimoire. Also just like some use blogs for it can be a general way of showing your daily life only with the use of clippings and more crafty things instead of photos.
I did of course add embellishments to the front of the book too and also changed the fastening from the now petrified elastic to a long piece of black ribbon.
The first page had to be dedicated to “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe .. By far my favourite
I’m going to get small boy to start doing this too so he can learn and we can both spend time crafting together and being creative, things we both enjoy doing.
I’d love to see your scrap books so maybe you could post it in your blog?
If you don’t have one why not start your own.
I am going to one day get a smash book, they are lovely but right now I need to feed us which is far more important.
